**SSI Technical Extended Range Trimix** is an advanced technical diving program designed for divers who want to extend their capabilities beyond the limits of air-based diving. The use of trimix as the bottom gas helps reduce the effects of nitrogen narcosis and improves diver performance at greater depths.
The course prepares divers to plan and conduct decompression dives to a maximum depth of 60 meters using two decompression gases. Training can be completed in either a Twinset or Extended Range Sidemount configuration and serves as a natural progression toward more advanced trimix diving.
Who is this course for
- Graduates of the Extended Range course or an equivalent decompression diving program
- Divers looking to begin trimix training and extend their diving range to 60 meters
- Divers planning further development in technical diving
- Twinset divers
- Extended Range Sidemount divers progressing toward deeper technical diving
- Divers interested in using trimix during decompression dives
- Divers looking to reduce the effects of nitrogen narcosis during deep dives
- * This course can be taken directly after completing the Extended Range program and does not require prior completion of the Technical Extended Range course. The program includes the full Technical Extended Range curriculum, with the final two training dives conducted using trimix as the bottom gas.
- * When completing the course in a sidemount configuration, a Sidemount certification is required, while prior completion of the Extended Range Sidemount course is strongly recommended.
What you will learn
- Planning and conducting decompression dives to a maximum depth of 60 meters
- Using trimix as the bottom gas
- Using two decompression gases
- Planning more complex decompression profiles
- Selecting appropriate breathing gas mixtures for planned depths and dive profiles
- Advanced multi-gas management techniques
- Proper gas switch procedures
- Organization and management of multi-cylinder configurations
- Improved buoyancy control, trim, and propulsion techniques during deep technical dives
- Team diving procedures and communication
- Problem-solving and emergency procedures during trimix dives
- Planning and organizing advanced dives in either a Twinset or Extended Range Sidemount configuration
How we work
Training is conducted according to the **Sidemount Precision Protocol** methodology, built on precision, procedures, and the conscious development of diving skills. Whether the course is completed in a Twinset or Extended Range Sidemount configuration, special attention is given to proper equipment setup, multi-gas management, and procedural accuracy.
New skills are first practiced on land before being transferred into the water. Throughout the course, we use video analysis to evaluate diver positioning, technique, and procedural execution. This allows participants to receive detailed feedback and continuously improve their skills throughout increasingly demanding trimix dives.
Special emphasis is placed on dive planning, gas selection, gas switch procedures, and effective task management during deep technical dives.
Course schedule
The course begins with online academic sessions covering advanced decompression planning, trimix theory, multi-gas management, gas switch procedures, and safety protocols. The academic portion provides a solid foundation for the practical training phase.
Practical training starts with skill development and procedural practice in confined water or shallow training environments. Depending on logistics and scheduling, part of the course may be conducted in Poland, for example at Koparki Jaworzno, where the focus is placed on refining techniques, procedures, and preparing for deeper dives.
The final part of the course is typically conducted during a diving trip to locations that allow the full depth range of the program to be completed, such as Croatia, Egypt, or other suitable destinations. It is also possible to complete the entire practical portion of the course during a dedicated training trip.
The course structure is identical to the Technical Extended Range program, with one important difference: the final two training dives are conducted using trimix as the bottom gas. These dives provide practical experience in planning, preparing, and executing deep trimix dives.
